Dentures and partials
A partial replaces some teeth and a full denture replaces all the teeth on a jaw. Both are for adults who have lost teeth and want to chew and smile with more ease.
Usually four to six visits over several weeks.

What happens
The visit, in order
- 01
Step 1: You talk about what you want
How you eat and talk now, and what you'd like to change. Dr. Barksdale examines your mouth.
- 02
Step 2: You hear the options
Dentures, a partial or other ways to replace teeth, what each costs and what happens if you wait. Implants are placed by a dentist who focuses on them, and we refer you.
- 03
Step 3: Impressions and fittings
Several visits over a few weeks to get the fit and bite right.
- 04
Step 4: Adjustments
New dentures often need a few small adjustments. We schedule them with you.
Good to know
Comfort, waiting, risks and billing
Comfort
Impressions and fittings need little numbing. If teeth need to come out first, we numb the area and you can ask for a break at any time.
If you wait
Missing teeth can let the ones beside them shift, and make it harder to chew. You can wait, and Dr. Barksdale will tell you what to watch for.
Risks and after-care
New dentures can rub and feel strange for a few weeks. Tell us where they rub and we adjust them. Dentures need cleaning every day and an exam at your regular visits.
How it's billed
Dentures aren't part of the plan's routine visits, so the estimate is in writing before we start, with each step and its fee. We don't bill insurance; you get a receipt.

Questions
Questions about dentures and partials
Do dentures need to be replaced?
They wear over time, and your mouth changes. At your exams Dr. Barksdale checks the fit and tells you when they need work.
Can I eat normally?
Most people eat softer foods at first and build up. We tell you what to expect at your fitting.
What if a denture breaks?
Call us. We tell you whether it can be repaired and how to manage until your visit.
Do you place implants?
No. Implants are placed by a dentist who focuses on them, and we refer you if that's what you want.
